Shifa Liver Transplant & Hepatobiliary Surgery Program

Considering the dire need to establish a Center of Excellence in Liver Diseases and to establish a sustainable Liver Transplant & Hepatobiliary Surgery Program in Pakistan, Shifa Int. Hospital Islamabad started its preliminary project work in 2011. It was a challenging task to manage quality, resource capabilities, and an integrated team of healthcare professionals to successfully monitor each and every stage from pre-transplant workup, patient and donor assessment, and post-transplant care of the patients.

On 30th April 2012, the Shifa Liver Transplant team performed its first Living Donor Liver Transplant Surgery. Since then, the Liver Transplant team has performed more than 1250 Living Donor Liver Transplant Surgeries at the facility. The center is currently performing  Liver Transplants with success rates compatible with International standards and that is why Shifa’s liver transplant program is considered to be the best transplant program in Islamabad and therefore Pakistan
