Immunology Laboratory

Shifa International Hospital has established clinical laboratory services for immunology. The immunology section is supervised by Brig. Retd. Dr. Tahir Aziz Ahmed with 28 years of experience post FCPS and FRCPath (Immunology). The laboratory has successfully established itself as one of the leading centers for clinical immunology laboratory services. It provides comprehensive and specialized laboratory services for the diagnosis of autoimmune diseases, immune deficiency diseases, allergy, paraproteinemia, immunophenotyping, the study of renal and skin biopsies, and transplant-related investigations. The laboratory services include interpretative comments and the consultant is available for consult on the telephone or with an appointment. An extensive panel of tests is being carried out in this laboratory in relation to allergy and autoimmune disease which include inhaled allergens, food allergens, autoimmune neurological profile, autoimmune liver profile, Celiac disease profile, connective tissue disorder profile, tests for vasculitides, tests for the anti-phospholipid syndrome, tests for cryoglobulins, autoantibodies for systemic sclerosis, autoantibodies for myositides, autoantibodies for type 1 diabetes mellitus and autoimmune, thyroid disease and Addison disease. In addition, laboratory tests for stem cell and organ transplant, Immune deficiency diseases, tests for hereditary angioedema, tests for paraprotein related conditions (including multiple myeloma and MGUS), Immunophenotyping of  Haematolymphoid malignancies, and Immunofluorescence based studies of renal and skin biopsies are also available. The post-graduate program at immunology is recognized for FCPS immunology.
